A quickie.

I read somewhere (I couldn’t tell you where) that all relationships are a constant power struggle, that at any given moment in the relationship there is always one person who likes the other person more. Thus, someone always having the upper hand.

Why does anyone have to have the upper hand? Why can’t two people just enjoy each other’s company without feeling the need to play mind games in order to have control over the relationship?

It’s my opinion that this is a clear sign the majority of society isn’t really ready for relationships.

  1. From birth we are taught that life is a contest. Who has the biggest house, best car, most high-powered job, went to the best school, lives in the best neighborhood?…the list goes on.

I’m sure relationships suffer from this and also are affected by the fact that society is changing. Men have classically held the head of the household role. Women are increasingly assuming dominant and powerful roles. That mixed with non-traditional heterosexual relationships where the roles are less clearly defined by society and you’re just talking about a mess.

The best we can hope for is to hold onto ourselves and spend life with someone who appreciates us and while we appreciate them. We can choose to change the game or be content living life playing someone else’s.
