Well said, Eric, those who are left behind to worry deserve our sympathy and support.

Isn't it terrible how we learned nothing from Vietnam (in many more ways than just the following!) ... That opposing a war does not mean we want all of our troops to be tortured or die horribly and we don't care about their families' suffering. Amazing how the right-wingers try to twist the views of those who are disillusioned with the war into 'not supporting the troops.'

1968 returning? I think John 'Fortunate Son' Fogerty put it best in 2004:

'Deja Vu All Over Again'
by John Fogerty

"Did you hear 'em talkin' 'bout it on the radio
Did you try to read the writing on the wall
Did that voice inside you say I've heard it all before
It's like Deja Vu all over again

Day by day I hear the voices rising
Started with a whisper like it did before
Day by day we count the dead and dying
Ship the bodies home while the networks all keep score

Did you hear 'em talkin' 'bout it on the radio
Could your eyes believe the writing on the wall
Did that voice inside you say I've heard it all before
It's like Deja Vu all over again

One by one I see the old ghosts rising
Stumblin' 'cross Big Muddy
Where the light gets dim
Day after day another Momma's crying
She's lost her precious child
To a war that has no end

Did you hear 'em talkin' 'bout it on the radio
Did you stop to read the writing at The Wall
Did that voice inside you say
I've seen this all before
It's like Deja Vu all over again
It's like Deja Vu all over again"

So it's not a question of "if" but "when" we will go to war. How will America react to a draft? With the majority of the public looking for an Iraq pullout in 2008 there seems to be little support for more conflict.

I guess we might not need a draft though if Bush decides to send the troops for another tour of duty. I feel for the families and friends of the brave troops at war.
